I first worked with the Flaming Lotus Girls in 2006 and was in active service with the group till 2013 when I returned to the UK. The group was instantly addictive and I was part of build and installation crews for 7 large sculptures in San Francisco and have shown them at Coachella, Robodock in Amsterdam and at Burning Man. Flaming Lotus Girls is a female driven volunteer-based group of artists who make large-scale kinetic fire art. In doing so we teach skills and many volunteers gain confidence.
Our work stands at the intersection of sculpture, kinetics, robotics, pyrotechnics, and electronic technology. We create interactive large-scale fire sculptures that are both visually stunning and engaging, inviting people to become part of the art. Our sculptures are made of steel, stainless steel, copper, aluminum, glass and wood – and their sizes range from pretty small to really, really large. We make fire that blazes from 2 inches to 150 feet.

Arcadia Spectacular
Arcadia Spectacular worked in collaboration with American artist Nate Smith to bring his incredible fire tornado to the UK. As team lead, Michelle liked to be called the Tornado Queen where she tamed building high swirling jets of liquid propane to create a mesmerizing Fire Tornado.
Fishbug
Created at The Shipyard in Berkely, California, The Fishbug was the brainchild of lead artist Rebecca Anders. An honorarium project for The Burning Man project with the theme of Evolution, Fishbug was installed for the first time in the Nevada desert in 2009. There were many long hours fabricating, planning, packing; working in the lovely California sun. The Fishbug has since been shown many times, including Fire Arts Festival, Oakland 2009 and San Mataeo Maker Faire 2010.
